Grief has a way of knocking the wind out of us. It’s heavy, unpredictable, and deeply personal. For some, it can feel like the end of the story. But for others—like my recent guest, Victoria Edwards—it becomes the beginning of a powerful new chapter.
Victoria is a woman of many talents and titles: makeup artist, hairstylist at Ulta Beauty, woman of God, mother, and certified grief coach. But one of the most defining moments of her life was losing her father to something most of us rarely think about—male breast cancer.
Yes, men can get breast cancer. In fact, according to the American Cancer Society, approximately 2,800 men in the U.S. will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2025, and around 510 will lose their lives to the disease. While it accounts for less than 1% of all breast cancer cases, its rarity often means it’s diagnosed later—making awareness critical.
The Birth of “I’m Not Fatherless”
When her father passed, Victoria’s grief was deep and layered. But instead of letting it consume her, she created I’m Not Fatherless, a grief support group designed to help others who have lost a parent.
The name alone speaks volumes—it’s a declaration that even in loss, we carry the love, wisdom, and presence of those we’ve lost. We are not “without” them; we are living testaments of their legacy.
Faith and Healing in the Face of Grief
Victoria’s journey wasn’t just about processing loss—it was about reconciling that pain with her faith. She shared that her relationship with God was both challenged and strengthened during this time. Grief made her lean into God’s promises, even on the days she didn’t feel like praying.
She reminded our audience that grief and faith can coexist. One does not cancel out the other. God doesn’t erase the pain, but He walks with us through it.
Beauty in the Midst of Brokenness
As a mother and beauty professional, Victoria often has to show up for others even while managing her own healing. She admitted it’s not always easy—but it’s a balance of giving to others while giving herself permission to rest, cry, and breathe.
Her story is a reminder that healing doesn’t mean we stop living—it means we find new ways to carry both joy and sorrow.
Encouragement for the Grieving Heart
Victoria left listeners with a word of encouragement for anyone walking through grief: “Grief is not weakness—it’s proof of how deeply you’ve loved.”
Whether your loss is fresh or years old, you are allowed to take your time. You are allowed to still miss them. And you are allowed to heal at your own pace.

Final Thoughts
Hosting Victoria Edwards on It’s Been a Journey reminded me that grief is not just about the moment someone leaves us—it’s about the life we live after they’re gone. Her story is one of resilience, purpose, and unwavering faith.
