Beyond the Trigger: Thriving after the Pain

Guest Brandon Fisher

Family, let me first encourage you — no matter where you are or what you’ve been through, God still has a plan for your life. Sometimes what should have taken us out becomes the very thing that wakes us up. If you’re reading this and carrying pain in your body or your mind, I want you to know this: you’re not forgotten, you’re not alone, and you are not too far gone for God to turn it all around.

Today, we’re shining a light on an epidemic that continues to shake communities across America — gun violence. According to the Gun Violence Archive, in 2024 alone there were over 43,000 gun-related deaths and more than 80,000 injuries across the United States. That’s more than 300 people shot every single day. But behind every statistic is a name, a heartbeat, a family — and a story of pain, survival, and purpose.

One of those stories belongs to Brandon Fisher, a 28-year-old young man whose life was forever changed when he became a victim of gun violence. The bullet that entered his body didn’t steal his purpose — it reignited it. Brandon’s recovery journey began with pain — both physical and emotional — but it quickly turned into a story of faith, gratitude, and growth.

💔 A Year After the Bullet

Brandon’s journey is more than a recovery story; it’s a resurrection story. After surviving a near-fatal gunshot wound, he spent months battling not just physical pain, but the trauma that comes after the trigger is pulled. Sleepless nights. Flashbacks. The haunting “what ifs.”

But instead of letting that pain define him, Brandon turned it into purpose. Surrounded by his loving family and strengthened by his faith, he found a new way to live — one filled with gratitude, hope, and a commitment to God that overflows in everything he says and does.

He reminds us that the real healing doesn’t just happen in the hospital — it happens when we choose to face the pain and allow God to do the deeper work in our hearts.

🙏🏽 Faith Beyond the Pain

Brandon’s story is proof that faith can rise out of trauma. When the world tries to tell you your story is over, God steps in and rewrites the ending. His life now serves as a testimony for anyone who’s ever faced a near-death experience, battled PTSD, or felt trapped in fear after trauma.

If you’ve ever asked, “Why did I survive?”, Brandon’s story whispers back, “Because purpose still needs your voice.”

💪🏽 Moving Beyond the Trigger

So many of us live with unspoken pain — grief, violence, rejection, or trauma that our minds try to suppress but our bodies still carry. Healing isn’t just about physical recovery; it’s about reclaiming peace in your spirit.

Whether your wound was visible or invisible, you can begin again. Healing is not forgetting — it’s learning to live beyond what tried to destroy you.

As Brandon shared on It’s Been a Journey:

“When I realized I was still here, I stopped asking why I got shot and started asking what God wanted to do with me now.”

That’s how purpose begins — not with perfection, but with surrender.
