Breaking the Silence of Ideation: Fight Against Rejection and Abandonment

Family… this one is personal and powerful.
On this episode of It’s Been a Journey, we sit down with LaShawn Poole, a woman whose story reminds us that healing doesn’t always start with an answer — sometimes it begins with a question.

For LaShawn, that question was born in middle school:
“Who is my dad?”

It was a simple question, but one that shaped her mind, her emotions, and her identity for years. What began as curiosity soon became a deep ache that followed her into adulthood — an ache that left her isolated, angry, and

unsure of her place in the world.

As LaShawn grew older, that unanswered question created a storm inside her. She withdrew from friends, family, and herself. Anger became her language, and silence became her shield.

When she finally met her father, she expected healing — but instead found confusion. His new wife didn’t know she or her brother existed. The truth that should’ve brought closure brought chaos instead.

For five long months, disagreement and tension brewed until one devastating phone call changed everything — a call from her half-sister, telling her that a family member had passed away. The pain hit harder than words could express.

She stopped eating.
She stopped communicating.
She stopped living.

But even in her silence… voice tried to interrupt God’s plan, but they couldn’t because His voice silence them.

In her darkest hour, when she had completely withdrawn from the world, LaShawn heard the unmistakable voice of God.
A whisper that broke through the noise of pain and rejection, saying,

“You are not forgotten. You are mine.”

That moment marked the turning point. Slowly, through faith, prayer, and therapy, LaShawn began to rebuild herself from the inside out.

She learned that sometimes the healing we’re despe

rate for doesn’t come from others — it comes when we let God redefine who we are.

From Rejection to Renewal

LaShawn’s story is more than survival; it’s a testimony of revival.
She turned her pain into purpose, her silence into a story, and her wounds into wisdom.

Through her journey, we’re reminded that mental illness doesn’t make you weak — it makes you human. And healing doesn’t happen overnight, but one decision at a time:
To face the truth.
To forgive.
To keep living.

As she shared on the show, “When I coul

A Message to the Listener

If you’ve ever struggled with rejection, abandonment, or unanswered questions, let LaShawn’s journey remind you:
💜 Your identity isn’t lost — it’s waiting to be revealed.
💜 Your worth isn’t based on who left — it’s grounded in who loves you.
💜 And even when you feel unseen, God still sees you.

Healing begins when we stop asking why we weren’t enough and start believing we always were.
